This section of the site is designed to give the budding MP author grounding in the basic concepts of Operations Manager 2007. While the product documentation provided with the product explains the basics of the architecture and components of the product there is more to learn if you really want to take advantage of some of the cool features of Operations Manager when you design your management pack. Operations Manager 2007 represents a huge leap in architecture and capabilities from MOM 2005. While you can build a basic management pack with little knowledge of how things work, knowing basic workflow concepts and understanding how Operations Manager distributes and executes these workflows can help you a lot. The product is totally extensible and the Operations Manager product team use management packs to define the basic functionality of the product including UI behavior. Not all the extensibility points are exposed outside of Microsoft at the minute but we plan to expose more functionality over time e.g. defining code based modules, new UI pages etc. With the first release of the product the possibilities of a management pack are still a huge leap forward from MOM 2005. A solid understanding of these concepts will allow you to author some great management packs.
